The loaded Marmac 400 leaving the San Francisco Bay
Project Summary
To relocate the Great Lake Dredge &
Dock Company's electric dredge Florida and associated equipment
from Oakland, CA, to Brunswick, GA, the submersible barge Marmac 400
was used. All equipment was floated over the barge, which was submersed
using the San Francisco dry dock. After re-floating the barge, the
dredge, crane barge, reel barge, and anchor barge were seafastened,
using custom built steel chocks. Using a floating crane, the pipes were
loaded.
Early November 2005, upon receipt of the tow approval certificate, the
3,400 hp tug Sea Islander made fast and the tow departed Oakland
with destination Brunswick, via Panama Canal.
