[ Sunshine State ]

Sunshine State safely moored at Alameda, CA

Project Summary

During the relocation of a dredge's anchor barge, the assist tug Sunshine State capsized and sunk at the entrance to the Oakland Estuary, early April 2005. The following day it was lifted up, re-floated, and towed to the Bay Ship & Yacht shipyard in Alameda, CA. Argonautics Marine Engineering was called in by the P&I Club for an independent survey of the tug, immediately after release of the tug by the Coast Guard.

Scope of Work

The project scope included:

  • Survey tug boat for potential cause for sinking;

  • Assess residual value of tug "as-is-where-is";

  • Provide a comprehensive survey report.
