Crane boom over bulk
carrier
Project Summary
During the loading of scrap metal,
the close passage of an outbound container vessel caused the 32,000 t
DWT bulk carrier African Shark to suddenly start an oscillating
movement along the quay side. This movement caused one of the vessel
crane booms to momentarily come in contact with the overhead boom of the
shore crane, resulting - as it turned out - in some minor paint damage
to the lower cord of the shore crane boom. Argonautics Marine
Engineering was called in for an independent survey of the crane.
Scope
of Work
The project scope
included:
-
Survey crane boom
for damage due to contact with vessel crane;
-
Investigate the incident and
determine the root cause;
-
Provide a
comprehensive survey report.
